Marketing Trends Background

“Be curious about the person you’re working with, how might that help you develop a better relationship that can blossom into something even stronger.”

Key Insights

Starting a Career with Disney (5:29)

Steven started his journey into Disney through theme parks, working in Europe. There he learned how important it is to really look at how each individual’s employees performance is tied to the end use experience.

“If they can’t directly impact the product, they can bring that and help the rest of the company understand how what they do is tied to the consumer experience.”

The Importance of Empathy (12:54)

Everyone talks about empathy for their teams, but how often do you think about empathy for your customers? When you think about the design of your product, start with empathy. What is it the client really needs? What are they going through? How are they living it? Only then can you come up with something that’s gonna be better.

“When you think about the design process, they always start with empathy.”

Personally Align with Your Business (14:31)

Most people go to work every day, but don’t really know if their purpose aligns with the company they work for. In fact, studies show that only 29% of people really know why they show up to work every day. Leaders should be able to really describe the purpose of a team and how they contribute to the overall success of the company.

“Are you really contributing to the overall objectives of the company?”

The Way You Deliver Feedback is Important (21:41)

When people are experimenting with new ideas, it’s common for things to get shot down. They way you give your notes is what matters most. It can be the difference between someone ready to jump back into action and try again, or end up shutting down and feeling hurt.

“I had to spend years trying to create and environment to bring back that ability to take a risk, because if it doesn’t pan out – you’re not going to get fired.”

About the Guest:

NCRW Coaching and Bushong Media LLC were born from my purpose to amplify the positive impact Steven can make on the world. He has this metaphor: A galaxy hurling meteors to positively impact peoples’ worlds. He is a “reinventalist”, someone who chose to reinvent themselves multiple times throughout life. Originally from Detroit, his mother instilled in him his core values of learning, perspective and GSD. An Engineer and Scientist with an MBA, he has worked and lived globally, with direct experience as a small business owner, consultant, professor, and corporate employee. He has worked in almost every business function and grown from analyst to Senior Vice President with the Walt Disney Company. All that was possible because of the love, support and challenge from his family and those who chose to invest time and attention in making him a better leader. He has chosen, once again to reinvent himself and help others maximize their personal and professional potential.
