IT Visionaries host Ian Faison sat down with Dion Hinchcliffe, VP and Principal Analyst at Constellation Research. Together they discussed the value of low-code tools, how to lead digital transformation, and the best tips to building your IT team.
Here are some of the key points of their conversation.
The New C-Suite
In the new C-suites, digital leaders are emerging in all forms – and that has led to a new mindset, as well. IT is moving away from being the cost center it used to be, and becoming a more growth and strategy focused.
One of the challenges of modern CIOs, CEOs, and other executives is the pressure to move quickly and always be innovating.
“The marketplace is moving faster than it ever has and continues to move faster,” Dion says.”What we see is these new C-suite leaders doing things to accelerate change in the organization because they’re under tremendous pressure. Who is it from? It is from everybody — from customers, from shareholders, it’s from the board, it’s on their C-suite peers, it’s from the workers who are saying, ‘We have to do more, we have to do it faster. Everything we’re doing has to get a lot easier. We need to automate a lot more.’ Then you to apply these new technologies – like artificial intelligence and big data analytics – to accelerate decision making and planning and execution operations and things like that. So that’s where we see that the enormous level of change is being demanded by everyone surrounding the CIO.”
The importance of customer experience
According to Dion, the biggest factor in whether you make money or not is customer experience.
“The data’s out there, everyone knows this – and so the companies that are organized around customer experience – that’s the organizing principle for it and for the business – they’re going to have a marketing manager, and they’re going to push the other players out.”
The mobile experience
The world of mobile has gotten very complicated very quickly, and the mobile aspect of business is growing across the board.
“Mobile device management is so complicated. Security issues are so big – these mobile stacks are so advanced and sophisticated,” Dion says.
Few have figured out a way to manage and take advantage of the advanced technology mobile offers, but those that have – and those that do in the future – are the ones who will be successful.
