For the last decade, cryptocurrency has challenged traditional financial systems and institutions. Banks and governments have struggled to reckon with, and regulate, this new form of digital currency. While crypto has slowly and steadily moved into the mainstream, it’s purpose, history, and impact remains a mystery to a majority of people and institutions

Laura Shin is a former reporter and editor for Forbes Magazine and host of the Unchained Podcast. While at Forbes, Laura spent several years covering cryptocurrency and blockchain technology. She later used the insights and connections from her reporting to create the Unchained Podcast, a weekly show that features interviews with some of the most influential people in the crypto and blockchain space. Through her reporting and show, Laura’s gained a unique insight into the world of bitcoin and cryptocurrency.

In this episode, Stephanie and Laura sit down to discuss the basics of bitcoin; what it is, how it works and how it’s changing the world. They also talk about how women are slowly gaining traction in a space that has been dominated by men and how Laura and other influencers in the crypto community are working to change public perception of the currency.

This episode marks the start of our two-week series on cryptocurrency! Over the next nine episodes, we’re going to cover the historical, cultural and economic impact crypto has had on the world.
